Assistant Producer (Festivals & Sites) - Birmingham Hippodrome

Since graduating from BCU in 2015 I have worked on a range of arts and cultural projects within Birmingham. Each has focused on placemaking, engaging local communities and celebrating regional, national and international talent. Career highlights include helping develop cultural city tours for a National Trust property, working on UNBOXED, a UK-wide festival that showcased creativity through ten free large-scale public art projects and managing a 100-person volunteer programme for Festival 23, a ten-day event marking the first anniversary of the Commonwealth Games.

In my current role as Assistant Producer (Festivals & Sites) at Birmingham Hippodrome I combine previous artistic administration skills with hands-on event delivery. I support on three core festivals which are Chinese New Year, B-SIDE Hip Hop Festival and Birmingham Weekender, alongside smaller site-specific events across the year. My responsibilities include developing programmes, liaising with and contracting artists, scoping creative commissions and working closely with the learning & participation, marketing and finance teams.

The opportunities and skills I learned while studying my degree have had a significant impact on my career journey. The breadth of modules gave me insight into a wide range of artistic disciplines which has been invaluable in moving into a creative producer role. The course also prepared me for collaborative working environments and introduced me to a network of industry professionals I continue to draw on today.
